Why our washrooms are for everyone

If you visit our store at 390 Osborne, the first thing you will see is our sign on the door reminding people that our washrooms are for everyone.    Here are the reasons why this is our policy: We want people to know that we care about people, not just transactions. Our aim is for the first impression on our door to reflect our utmost priority: valuing people above all else. We don’t want to put our staff in the uncomfortable position of policing washrooms, instead, we want them to focus on providing great service. We’ve experienced the discomfort of needing…

We continue our tradition to honour a real-life community hero namesake with each of our monthly feature flavours. Last month’s local hero was Ryder Smith, a 13-year-old boy who was born with cerebral palsy who lives here in Winnipeg. In honour of Ryder, we will be donating $1 from every pint of Ryder Rhubarb sold in July to the Disability Matters Vote. In August, we decided to bring back one of our legendary award-winning flavours – Louis Lavender. The combination of Saskatoon berries and lavender create a symphony of tastes that is unrivalled in its complexity and allure. In every…

We continue our tradition to honour a real-life community hero namesake with each of our monthly feature flavours. Last month’s local hero was Julie Donaldson, the owner of Home Instead Winnipeg. In honour of Julie, we will be donating $1 from every pint of Julie Berrycake sold in June to the Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba in memory of her grandmothers Sylvia and Kathy. Home Instead will match every $1. In July, we decided to use a seasonal fruit that we had never worked with before. Say Hi to Ryder Rhubarb! Ryder Rhubarb is reminiscent of rhubarb crisp. In case you’re…

Welcome our April and May community champions! We honour a real-life community namesake with each of our monthly feature flavours. We believe that our community is full of people who enrich our lives through their daily efforts, efforts we wish to acknowledge. In May, our local champion was Michelle Cameron, the owner of Dreamcatcher Promotions, with the featured flavour Michelle Matcha. We made a donation of $53 to “Drag The Red!” on Michelle’s behalf! We continue our tradition to honour a real-life community hero namesake with each of our monthly feature flavours. Last month’s local hero was Michelle Cameron, the owner of Dreamcatcher Promotions. In June, we will be making an absolutely new dairy flavour – Julie Berrycake.  The official dessert of summer is here –  Julie Berrycake. Julie Berrycake is our take on Strawberry Shortcake Ice Cream. It is made by combining our creamy dairy base with our luscious strawberry sauce.  Then chunks of house-made shortcake are added to provide a buttery and slightly crumbly texture that adds a delightful contrast to the…

We consistently try to uphold our five core values, one of which is our unwavering commitment to CARE FOR ALL ALWAYS. A while back, we posted about a dog in our store on social media, which resulted in a call from the Health Inspector. She kindly informed us that animals are not permitted inside the premises. While we could simply abide by the directive, we recognized that our furry friends are also valued customers. Thus, an idea emerged: ‘Alright, we may not be able to allow them* inside, but why not extend our hospitality to them as well!’ As a…

How we’re using our ice cream to give back to our community We honour a real-life community namesake with each of our monthly feature flavours. We believe that our community is full of people who enrich our lives through their daily efforts, efforts we wish to acknowledge. We started this tradition in March with the flavour Beverly Blood Orange which was named after Beverly Suek. Here you can read the full story. The second part of our idea was to donate $1 from every pint sold to a cause selected by the honouree. Beverly chose Sunshine House.  Last week a donation of $73…

Last month, we started a new tradition: having a real-life community namesake for each of our monthly feature flavours. Our community is full of people who enrich our lives through their daily efforts; efforts we wish to acknowledge. Last month’s blog explains this idea. This month we are bringing back Al Capopcorn. Fans of the sweet and salty combo are going to love it!  It is our take on Chicago-style popcorn. We add Bothwell Cheddar Cheese to our creamy dairy base that has been infused with freshly popped popcorn (then strained to ensure all the flavour and no kernels) and…

We give each of our ice cream flavours a creative name. It makes taking orders more fun, and we hope it makes our flavours more memorable. For example, our heavenly dark chocolate espresso ice cream could have been called dark chocolate espresso, but instead, we named it Donnie Darcocoa after the Donnie Darko character. Now you can just walk in and say, “give me a Donnie,” and we know exactly what you mean. Fun! We were talking about this, and we wondered if we could somehow bring our core value of giving back whenever possible into play. We decided to…
