How two ice cream competitors came together for the greater good

The date is July 13th. It is a beautiful day at The Forks. We were hired by Inclusion System to provide all the attendees of the Disability Matters Vote with a free Chaeban Ice Cream. The turnout was beyond expectations for this very important event and cause. There were just three of us working that day, and we scooped and scooped and scooped. The line-up never went down for the three hours of the event.

As the event was winding down, there was still a large lineup.  Then reality hit. We were going to run out of cups before we had served everyone. What to do? The line was a mix of all kinds of people, including many with disabilities who had overcome tremendous logistical hurdles to be at this event. Everyone had ice cream on their minds!  The thought of turning anyone away was making us somewhat sick to our stomachs.

How could we turn this around? We had only one long-shot idea. Run to the ice cream shop in The Forks and see if they would help us out. We did not know them, and we had no idea what they would think of a “competitor” asking them for help. The response was overwhelmingly positive. “You might have to disappoint those amazing and inspiring people? What do you need? We are in!”

The Neon Cone made sure that nobody was disappointed. Thank you to Daniel and his team for their help and for saving the day. In the spirit of the season we had Daniel down to our store and gave him back the extra cups we still had.  Thank you, Daniel and team, and sorry we kept the extra cups for so long!
