Who is our community namesake for Al Capopcorn this month?

Last month, we started a new tradition: having a real-life community namesake for each of our monthly feature flavours. Our community is full of people who enrich our lives through their daily efforts; efforts we wish to acknowledge. Last month’s blog explains this idea.

This month we are bringing back Al Capopcorn. Fans of the sweet and salty combo are going to love it!  It is our take on Chicago-style popcorn. We add Bothwell Cheddar Cheese to our creamy dairy base that has been infused with freshly popped popcorn (then strained to ensure all the flavour and no kernels) and then mix in our luxurious house-made caramel sauce. You don’t need to be a gangster to enjoy this one!

Right away we thought of Alana from Black Market Provisions but we couldn’t forget about her partner Angela (they kinda go together).  We came up with Al(ana and Ange) Capopcorn! Ange and Alana have been providing our neighbourhood with house-made soups, salads, baked goods, and eclectic giftware. Since 2019, they have featured a number of local producers and have become a beacon of inclusiveness in our city.

This month’s feature flavour was a perfect fit for Alana and Ange. Turns out, Ange likes salty and Alana has a sweet tooth. We love the sign on their door. “All are welcome.” Black Market proudly welcomes all no matter race, religion, sexual orientation, gender, age, ethnicity or ability.

In honour of Ange and Alana we will be donating $1 from every pint of Al Capopcorn sold to their chosen charity – Dream Factory.

The Dream Factory’s mission is to make dreams come true for kids in Manitoba battling life-threatening illnesses. On average, they fulfill approximately ~30 dreams in a year, with a record number of 44 fulfilled dreams in 2022.

We hope you will visit us this month and try a pint of Al Capopcorn, knowing that you are supporting a great cause!
